Ledston Luck - CSI Eddie Collins Book

Formats: E-Book, Paperback

Ages: 18+

They say you can always trust a copper. They’re lying.
They lied thirty years ago and they’re still lying today.
When two teenagers go missing near an old mining village called Ledston Luck, an investigation uncovers more than a community crippled by injustice and secrets. It uncovers a dead body in a long-abandoned chapel.
Crime Scene Investigator, Eddie Collins, heads a scene examination that goes horribly wrong. The body is booby-trapped, and one of the team killed. Eddie is heartbroken and furious and is determined to find the truth Ledston Luck is hiding.
His determination brings him into violent conflict with the Professional Standards Department, and leaves him removed from duty, with public opinion and his boss against him.
Eddie goes it alone and discovers there are more killings to come, payback for horrific crimes that are decades old, but still raw. But before he can warn the victims, he discovers something else – he’s in the killer’s trap with a shotgun at his head.

If you like highly charged crime thrillers with a forensic slant, and characters that stay with you long after you close the book, you’ll love Andrew Barrett’s Eddie Collins series.

Reviews

This CSI led crime series is a favourite of mine. It has everything I need from a crime book, fast paced, complex plots, characters to love and hate. A psychological element and even a bit of action. A booby trapped body in an old abandoned chapel injured Eddie and Benson and kills one of the team. Eddie is guilt ridden and angry which makes him even more acerbic than usual. We see the worst and the best of Eddie’s personality in this book. You are either going to love or hate him, He has anger management issues, and let’s not dwell on authority issues 😂. I can’t help but love him cos his heart is in the right place. There’s a good amount of emotional content in this book which I love to see. Looking at the characters Charles, Eddie’s dad was ace in this book, he knew what Eddie was going through and was determined to help him face up to having a problem in the hope of overcoming it. The psychologist Morgan was just fab. I totally loved her. It’s great to see that Eddie and Benson are able to discuss the experience, and to some extent their feelings. Benson is also able to call Eddie out on unacceptable behaviour. Harry just broke my heart, bless him. There are some really horrible deplorable characters too. Divine Wright’s POV adds a psychological/ domestic suspense aspect to the book. The plot has a great complexity, it’s cleverly woven. It kept me engrossed throughout. I’ve spent more time discussing the characters, but it’s a great balance between plot and characters for the driving forces of the book. I think the characters are the element that gives the edge to a great book. I highly recommend this book, and the whole series.

Reader review

The ups and downs and the speed of the story as it thunders from one hair raising section to the next. I can’t recommend this series of books enough to anyone who likes exciting plots, twisting and turning from one bloodcurdling scene to the next. How do you sleep at night Mr. Barrett?

Reader review

A tense, very well constructed thriller which ratchets the tension up as the story unfolds. The two main characters (Collins and Benson) continue to evolve making you want to read more and more about them. There are some very funny interludes particularly sections of dialogue between Eddie and his Dad. I am delighted there are a further two novels in the series and hopefully the author will continue producing them for a long time yet!
