This Side of Death - CSI Eddie Collins Book

Formats: E-Book, Paperback

Ages: 18+

This Side of Death. When the past comes back to hunt you.
Alex Sheridan believes the only way she can be free of her demons is to kill the men in her life. She has a list, and Crime Scene Investigator Eddie Collins is on it.
Death misses Eddie by inches, and Alex is locked away in Juniper Hill high-security hospital.

Everything is fine for Eddie until one day four years later, when Alex escapes. This time she’s better prepared.

The week that follows ruptures Eddie’s life and shatters the belief he had in his own past, leaving him wondering what really happened, and facing one stark choice: who to kill and who to save.

This Side of Death is the most revealing CSI Eddie Collins novel to date. Prepare to see inside his past and understand what makes him the angriest, most feared, and yet most respected CSI in England.

If you like fast-paced and gripping crime thrillers with a strong forensic element, you'll love Andrew Barrett's This Side of Death.

Reviews

These books just get better and better. This time we are privy to some of the past life that Eddie had. And it is this life involving youthful love that comes back to haunt him in more ways than one. A much darker novel than normal but we still get the sarcasm and quick repartee from Eddie. And this comes amongst an ever-growing body count which could include Eddie himself. Another superb novel from this very talented author.

Reader review

Thrills and excitement all the way. Grips you so tight you can’t put it down, always wanting to know what’s coming next. Developing into my favourite series of books. Can’t wait for the next. Keep ‘em coming Andrew.

Reader review

Eddie Collins, the grouchy, sarcastic and now newly promoted Foensic Manager of the tiny team at MCU, in Leeds, England, is forced to confront a personal demon from his past in the form of an ex girlfriend he'd dated when just 18. Beginning with a first remeeting in a freshly worked telling of the short story, The Note, itself vividly and heart poundingly surprising, the story then leaps forward several years to Now, and carries us onwards with devastating detail and, well, sadness. Author, Andrew Barrett, knows about unexpected death up close and personal because he has worked as a crime scene investigator (previously called a Scene of Crime Officer) since the 1990s. This gives a depth of reality to his work that other authors sometimes struggle to achieve - little details like slugs in the rain. And his story lines are unique, his characters very 'real' people. It makes his works simultaneously brilliantly vivid and occasionally hard to face. This Side of Death is the sixth in his Eddie Collins series and, somehow, each new book feels even better than the last. For readers who enjoy crime fiction with irascible characters and a gritty, realistic feel and seriously exciting plot lines, look no further: very highly recommended.
