Once again, the stories of abused children are told here with great compassion, with a view to preventing these murders. Jackson does not sensationalise, but nor does she shy away from the horrific truths about the lives of those innocents unlucky enough to fall into the clutches of adults who torture them without mercy. The poignant moments, when Daniel reaches out for the hugs he no longer receives, when Christian’s stepmother catches up with him and returns him to the dog cage he is made to live in, when Abdi’s neighbour unwittingly sends him to his death by persuading him to climb down from the fence and go home with his stepfather, and when little PJ keeps a tight hold of Diane’s hand desperately wanting to stay where he feels safe, are haunting and beautifully written. There are no happy endings here; but a hope that Jackson’s words will be heard by all of us, and that children can be saved.

I really applaud the work Jessica Jackson does, to write about any true crime is harrowing however, when its regarding the innocent and vulnerable members of our society namely children it seems somehow even more destructive. The book focuses on 8 children all with their futures ahead cruelly and violently destroyed, everything they could have been or achieved cruelly and viciously wiped out. The book gives a voice to the children and hopefully an awareness to prevent the next tragedy.

Once again Jessica Jackson keeps you reading. This is a very difficult subject to write about but once again the author keeps your interest until the very end. I can see the terror on the face of the child that was pulled off a fence and sent back home with his murderer. This book again reminds us how serious child abuse is . Not only should we be aware but we must take action!!
