I live in the north west of England, on the edge of the beautiful Lake District, which is handy, because I enjoy walking almost as much as I enjoy eating chocolate. I absolutely love self-publishing, and still can't quite believe we have this amazing opportunity to get our books out there! Because I began writing with no social media presence, no website, etc, and didn't spend anything on services, but managed to find some success, I have now written a two book series to help other authors who want to follow a similar path, called Self-Publishing Success on a Shoestring. It answers many of the questions new publishers ask themselves, and helps to avoid the various scams out there. As Jessica Jackson, I've published a series of true crime books to raise awareness of child abuse, and sadly there are many more stories to tell. I write in a unique way, giving a voice to the children, and although my books don't easily fit into a genre, and most people hate my books(!) my series has reached many supportive readers, including abuse survivors.

This is the first standalone story in the series. Some of you will have seen the Netflix documentary: 'The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez', making Gabriel's one of the best known cases in the US, and beyond. With the kind permission of family members, I have told the story of this little boy's idyllically happy early childhood, living with his two loving uncles. That all changed when his mother demanded him back. I include several photos of Gabriel at school and at play, but I leave the photos of his injuries, and after his death, to the media.

The second book in the series tells the stories of 8 children, including Charmaine West from the UK, Daniel Valerio from Australia, and Christian Choate from the US. As with all my books, whilst I hope it is an interesting read, I also outline warning signs we can all look out for, and ideas for preventing the children's suffering and death. I believe that if more people realised how widespread this dreadful crime is, the better chance we'd have of protecting them.

"You're writing what?" Let me explain. After my friend's grandson was murdered by his mother, I was alarmed to discover how many children are being murdered by their caregivers every week (27 in the US, and 2 in the UK) and how little is done to prevent their fear and suffering. And so, I began to write the children's stories, honouring them for the precious little human beings they were, avoiding the sensationalism we often see in the news headlines. I cry whilst writing, and throughout my extensive research; but that's a small price to pay. Whilst most people cannot bear to read my books, those that support my mission include many, many abuse survivors, and children's families, such as those of Gabriel Fernandez and Victoria Climbié.
