The Unanswered Call
A Novel
By Dr. Tyrone Wilson, DM
Some disasters begin with a single catastrophic event.
Others begin with ordinary people making ordinary decisions.
A systems engineer postpones one final security task because there will always be time to finish it next week.
A hospital chooses speed over governance.
A teenager ignores the people who love him most.
A group of criminals believes ransomware is simply another way to make money.
None of these decisions seem extraordinary.
Until they collide.
When ransomware cripples two connected hospitals and a municipal water system is silently compromised, thousands of lives are placed at risk. As the disaster unfolds, doctors struggle to save patients without the technology they depend upon, investigators begin uncovering a tragedy far greater than anyone imagined, and ordinary families discover that the consequences of a single decision rarely stop where they begin.
This is not a story about hackers.
It is not a story about computers.
It is not even a story about ransomware.
It is a story about responsibility.
The Unanswered Call is a gripping, emotionally powerful cyber tragedy exploring cybersecurity, trust, family, greed, revenge, and the devastating consequences that occur when small decisions quietly become catastrophic failures.
Some phone calls are never answered.
Some mistakes are never corrected.
Some tragedies cannot be undone.
Reviews
5 out of 5 stars a story that stayed with me after I finished it. Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2026 Format: Kindle The Unanswered Call surprised me with how much it focused on people rather than just cybersecurity. The story starts with ordinary decisions that seem harmless, but little by little, those decisions begin connecting in ways that have much bigger consequences. Daniel Mercer was a character I found especially easy to sympathize with. He’s trying to do his job, support his family, and fix systems that have been neglected for years, but the pressure keeps building. The book shows how shortcuts, poor communication, outdated systems, and people assuming that “everything still works” can eventually create a disaster. The cybersecurity elements add tension, but the emotional side of the story is what kept me invested.
5 out of 5 stars A Gripping Cyber Thriller About Responsibility and Consequences Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2026 Format: Kindle The Unanswered Call delivers a compelling story that turns cybersecurity into a deeply human drama about responsibility, trust, and the consequences of seemingly small decisions. The escalating crisis involving hospitals, ransomware, and a compromised water system creates genuine tension while keeping the focus on the people caught in the fallout. Rather than glorifying technology or hackers, the novel explores how ordinary choices can combine into something catastrophic, making this an engaging and thought-provoking read.
