A storm has washed away part of the Suffolk coast. A research vessel in mapping changes in the sea floor when a village lost to the seas centuries before is discovered. Its name is Southmere, but an ancient map says its name is Twinmere. A campaign is started to get the name changed. A retired Catholic priest try to stop the campaign but is dismissed as senile. He knows that saying the name will summon an ancient horror.
