Death Benefit (A Rose Bennett Mystery #4) - The Rose Bennett Mysteries 4

Formats: E-Book, Paperback

A missing gambler, a compulsive liar, and a smouldering corpse? Private investigator Rose Bennett is on a hunt for the truth.

The storm clouds are already gathering for account manager Toby Dugdale when his cousin Leo Pearson disappears. Suspected of using the bank’s money to shore up Leo’s ailing business, Toby knows his job is on the line unless he can pull off a minor miracle and cover his tracks by the end of the week.

Rose Bennett doesn’t believe in miracles. Hired by the bank to investigate Toby’s obvious breach of trust, she soon discovers that Leo Pearson is nothing but a fraudster, and the evidence suggests that he hasn’t been acting alone.

Called to a bleak and lonely cliff top to investigate a cruel and suspicious death, DI George Mulligan finds himself staring into the smouldering remains of a burnt-out Jaguar saloon and wondering if the elusive Leo Pearson has turned up. And as Rose attempts to uncover the extent of Leo and Toby’s deceptions, and Mulligan turns up the heat on the victim’s glamorous widow Verity, it soon becomes clear that they both need the answer to the same unfathomable question.

Who wanted Leo Pearson dead so badly they were prepared to resort to murder?

Reviews

The books are an easy, dependable read and it’s comforting to return to characters and places you’ve come to know and like. I read the first three of her Rose Bennett mysteries, and I’m bummed there are no more.

Usually I am impatient to get to who dun it & will skip ahead. Not with this series. While all the main characters return, each story is its own best story. The story builds beautifully giving just enough information from each character to start to build the trail. Read every single page with no skipping ahead so I could catch all the clues...almost like watching the great black & white murder mystery movies that made the 1940s & 1950s wonderful.

I have read all four books that have so far been written in this series, and enjoyed everyone of them. The more books you read the more real the characters become. Being a Yorkshire lass I can visualise the places that are prominent in the book. When I was younger I holidayed in Scarborough so it was so easy to place myself in the area. A fabulous set of books. So looking forward to more in the future.
