Dancing Night Hawk begins as Hawk dances in the moonlight and hears the voices for the forest. She learns she must rescue the Ne’ne’me’kayaaa, the thunder birds who’ve protected her village for generations, from the Ma’ha’kuk Demon Lords who’ve captured them.

With her grandfather, Tree Who Hugs The Clouds, guidance, Dancing Night Hawk journeys across plains and the land of giant Trees. She speaks with Ya’kwa’hey, the magic bear, who flies her across the mountain to the Ma’ha’kuk Niagra Fortress. She battles the Demon King and frees the Ne’ne’nekay’aaa. At the conclusion, she returns home and is crowned Medicine Woman of her village.
