Christopher Kaufman is an Author, Composer, Illustrative Artist, Educator, Filmmaker and Concert Presenter. Kaufman began creating fantasy books with colorful illustrations when he was nine years old. A bit later he attended the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts during high school and discovered a great love of music. He lived the life of a composer for many years and completed his schooling-phase with advanced degrees in music, including a Doctorate in Music Composition from Cornell University where he studied with world renowned composers who think quite highly of his music. He continues his career in concert music and has received many performances and accolades. You can find much about this aspect of Kaufman's work at his home site - soundartus.com. His stories, however, never left him. Throughout his years in music conservatory, every night as he prepared for sleep, he imagined his stories - so that when he emerged from Cornell - he had not only his advanced degrees in music, but the complete event structure for his classical fantasy series, Tales Of The Ocean City through book eight, which he is working on now. This work includes audio albums which are filled with rich symphonic cinematic music and dramatic narration. Now he has created Video Books which combine the graphically illustrated pages and audio albums. His new podcast series will introduce the stories in their original episodic form, a ten minute episode per week followed by free-form readings, music, poetic blog entries about authors such as Lord Dunsany and Lloyd Alexander (Kaufman's favorite), and much else. During the 2000teens, Kaufman paused work on TOC as he raised his daughter, Sophie. As a creative artist, his work as a father included creating a concert series, The Phantastic Theater - new music and art for people of all ages all at once. For these events Kaufman created multi-media works he calls 'Music Plays'. These works combine fully illustrated stand-alone books, audio albums and live shows which feature full symphonic music pouring through speakers, background video filled with Kaufman's illustrative art, live action, dance, song and puppetry. Films of these works are available on Kaufman's YouTube channel - SOUNDARTUS. Note: for these works, Kaufman created the story, book, art, music, puppets and performed the narration and voice acting with his daughter in the title roles. Kaufman also composed during this time works for the classical concert stage, including symphonic works, chamber works and environmental works which include soundscapes crafted from hundreds of natural sounds. When his daughter outgrew family-theater productions, Kaufman returned to Tales Of The Ocean City. He wrote books 3-5 in 2022 and then continued onwards to the second ongoing series, a trilogy titled The Green World. He has been enjoying presenting his work via podcasts of late.
