Reviews
A model family history and unique social history record especially of British India. Gripping! The book is by an already experienced writer and a rare and intimate account of her own upper middle class English family (not aristocrats), full of rare personal anecdotes, which uniquely capture the attitudes and concerns of their times. In particular, it gives a picture of life in India for the uppermost British colonial class in the hay day of the Raj up to 1936, with several family members interconnecting and meeting spouses there. There is unique social history detail in the account and memories. This does not survive in artefacts, photographs or formal histories, and would not only be lost without such a record, but would not even be believed by future generations without it.
Brilliant history of the Clodes and Haileys Superb history of the Clodes and Haileys, brilliantly. written by one of their own. A must read for all relations spread across the globe.
