With six failures so far and six more properties to see, Beth, her irascible husband, Jack, and their two fat dogs continue their hunt for a country domaine in France.

As tensions rise, Beth’s anxieties switch from house-hunting failures to fears that Jack is finally going to lose it altogether and come to blows with “yet another incompetent” estate agent.

In spite of this and a dog who insists on trying to die, they battle on exhausted but determined to realise their dream. Will it end in tears?
This is the hilarious second instalment of the Haslams' French adventures.

Reviews

I don't know where to start suffice it to say that Beth has excelled herself on the continuing story of her's and Jack's search for the dream domains in the South of France with two totally different pooches in tow. There were many disappointments along the way with Estate Agents who were characters in themselves and Domaines and settings so totally different from Beth and Jack's requirements. Her descriptions of the scenery and architecture of the towns they went through and the relevant history of those places were so descriptive and enjoyable to read it made me get my Google App on my mobile phone out to take this trip with them following their route and checking out the beautiful and contrasting settings of the Domains they were led to peruse as expectant buyers. The food of the area and the flora and fauna gave me such an insight into a France I never knew. I also had many laughs along the way not just the dogs but Jack who seems so like my own husband. I must say that Beth has more patience checking out those totally unsuitable properties than I would have had. I would be more like Jack dismissive and want to move on as some of these so called desirable properties were really stretching the truth. But the sheer joy in finding the home of their dreams was palpable I felt like I had at last come home! No more searching but all was not perfect...buy or download part 3 as I have done and we will find out what's in store for us...

Glynis Perfect

I enjoyed Part 1 of this romp around rural France in search of a home so much I just had to find out what happened next! I rejoined Beth, Jack, sleepy Sam and boisterous ‘petit Beef’ as they continued their search for the perfect domaine. What a rollercoaster of a story, you just couldn’t make this up! Beth manages to see the humour in each unbelievable encounter and her wonderfully descriptive writing style brings every incident to life in an alarmingly vivid way! I laughed, I gasped, I cheered, I cringed and during a chilling visit to the home of the sinister man in black I genuinely feared for Beth’s safety! Every attempt to find their dream home seems doomed. My knowledge of France is quite limited and so it’s a real bonus for me that Beth has taken time to describe the landscape and history of the areas they are visiting. I confess to finding a map of France and learning more about the towns, villages and countryside so vividly described by Beth. A great 5* read highly recommended... now I’m ready for Part III
