Reviews
I enjoyed Beth Haslam’s first book in the Fat Dogs series so much that I immediately had to buy the next one. To my delight the box set of books 1-3 were on special offer for a ridiculously low 99p so I snapped them up like a mad dog. And, I have to say, these delightful books would have been worth every penny at full price. I laughed, I cried, I tore out my hair and I celebrated with Beth and her grumpy Jack in this wonderful series of stories. Beth and Jack are looking for a French Estate with plenty of land, a small house, and definitely NOT a doer upper. How difficult can that be to find? It appears that the answer is very! In book one we follow Beth and Jack on their initial house hunting trip. Such is Beth’s way with words that this short trip flies by as we are regaled with stories of incompetent estate agents, weird and wonderful ruins with bizarre ‘gardiens’ and of course beautiful fat dogs. But do they finally find a property which fits their criteria before time runs out and they have to head back to England? Without giving away the box set I think I can say yes, but things are not quite what they seem and plenty more adventures follow. Beyond that you will really have to buy this set. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed at any price.
THIS was one of the most enjoyable memoirs I have read. Perhaps it is my love of France but in truth it is the author's style of writing. I bought the first three books and could not put them down. Beth has a way of telling a story that leaves you wanting more. She and Grumphy husband buy a country home in France believing it just needs a little fixing up. Well as a previous owner of an 1830 stone farmhouse myself, that is never the case. Beth takes us along for the ride and what a fun ride it is. Like me I suspect you won't be able to put these down till you have finished and end wanting more.
