Matt is the new kid - again. And fighting with two jerks in the cafeteria line was not the best way to start off in his new school.

But he's made some friends as well as enemies. First there's Gina who sits beside him in photography class. She's full of surprising information. Then there's Rob, who shares Matt's interest in snakes. Rob's new swimming pool, which is still under construction, holds the promise of fun for the coming summer.

And the historical artifacts discovered on Rob's property during excavation - some tools used over two hundred years ago in the construction of nearby Fort Hawkins - make a great subject for Matt's latest photography assignment.

But when the artifacts go missing, suspicion is thrown on Matt. Will the photos he took hold the key to discovering the culprit and recovering the stolen items?
