To Pay for the Crossing - Dark Places 3
Formats: E-Book, Paperback
Ages: 18+
Some debts can only be paid in blood—and some doors should never be opened.
When Eldritch receives the impossible news that his comatose wife, Helen, has awakened, he rushes back to London with hope in his heart—and vanishes without a trace. His closest allies, Gwyn and Aidan, fear the worst. In their world of shadows and ancient forces, miracles always have a price.
Gwyn, a fierce Welsh witch with limited powers but limitless loyalty, and Aidan, a gifted young man still learning the depths of his magic, follow the trail to the city. There, they uncover the horrifying truth: Helen has been claimed by a deadly entity known as a grieve—and it wants Eldritch’s body as a host for its mate.
As time runs out, old wounds resurface and new terrors emerge. The battle to save their friend will test every ounce of magic, trust, and courage they have. Because the grieve doesn’t just want to survive—it wants to conquer.
To save Eldritch, they’ll have to face what lies beyond the veil—and what they each fear most.
If you love emotionally complex characters facing dark supernatural threats, then you’ll be drawn into this gripping tale of loyalty, sacrifice, and shadowy magic and its heady mix of action, suspense, and unforgettable emotion.
Reviews
A scare-filled, fantasy adventure with a strong cast of characters. A RED RIBBON WINNER and highly recommended Individual reader comments: “I did enjoy this book. But then I always enjoy a bit of fantasy! The author did a good job with the characters; and I was rooting for Eldritch and his wife. Admittedly, the beginning is a bit slow with a lot of telling; never a good way to open a book. But, overall, it’s exciting and has plenty of twists.” Male reader, aged 55 “A lot of box ticking with this ‘demon’ novel – strong pacing, tick, cool characters, tick, accessible writing, tick, interesting dialogue, tick. Yes, all good. I did feel it got a little lost in the middle, but the ending made up for it.” Female reader, aged 43 “I’d recommend this to other readers who enjoy fantasy, adventure – and demons!!!” Male reader, aged 18 “Scary stuff with a ‘supernatural’ theme.” Female reader, aged 38
A fabulous 3rd book which could easily be read on its own although obviously, for better enjoyment, should be read in order. Unfortunately I had to go to work in between readings, which actually allowed me to occasionally catch my breath and move off the edge of my seat. The story moves along at a fast lick and I was completely immersed in the characters and what was happening to them. Sadly the book finished and while thankfully we aren't left hanging with any unfinished plots, it is surely just nicely ready to move into the next one - please?
