The Demon's Call - Dark Places 1
Formats: E-Book, Paperback
Ages: 12-15, 18+
Somewhere in the Welsh hills, an ancient evil is waking—and it’s calling Aidan by name.
After the sudden suicide of his closest friend, Aidan’s world begins to unravel. Haunted by dark dreams and a creeping sense that something isn’t right, he turns to the only person who ever hinted at the supernatural—Gwyn, the reclusive woman who raised him after his mother died. But Gwyn gave up her powers long ago, and getting involved again could cost her everything.
When a mysterious Englishman named Eldritch arrives in Llancathan claiming to be researching folklore, Aidan suspects more than coincidence. Eldritch is no writer—he’s a wizard, hunting a demon that’s preparing to take a human host. Worse, it already has a servant: a violent man from Aidan’s past who nearly destroyed him once... and is ready to try again.
To stop the coming darkness, Aidan, Gwyn, and Eldritch must unite—but with trust in short supply and time running out, their fragile alliance may shatter before the demon makes its final move.
The Demon's Call is the first in a gripping paranormal fantasy series. If you like intelligent dark fantasy rooted in folklore, gripping emotional stakes, and characters you’ll fall in love with, then you’ll love The Demon’s Call: a haunting, high-stakes journey through the heart of rural Wales.
Reviews
Scary and fast-paced. A Red Ribbon winner and highly recommended. Individual Reader Feedback: ‘Plenty of mystery to this supernatural thriller. The writing style is strong with a good balance of pace and descriptive prose.’ Female reader, aged 42 ‘Very enjoyable read let down slightly by a poor cover. The author works well building up suspense right until the very last page. A promising start.’ Male reader, aged 19 ‘The story is excellently plotted and I really got behind the characters. Scary in parts, I will now hunt out book two; I like ’scary’.’ Female reader, aged 52 ‘If you enjoy magic and witchcraft, particularly of the demonic kind, this will probably be for you.’ Male reader, aged 61
I was really intrigued to read this book as it is set close to where I currently live, and I love stories of folklore, myths and legends. I also like to give myself a bit of a scare with a horror story or two. This book certainly combines all these things. It delivers the full package. The first line hooked me right in and if I had not have been caught up in so many jobs I would have curled up and read right on through. 'It was the smell of blood that told Aidan Morgan he had arrived too late' The writer gives wonderful descriptions and I often felt I was drawn into the story experiencing the settings for myself. Wonderfully dark and very atmospheric. Very Highly Recommended Me now I cannot wait to read Book two.
