The Adventures of Mylo is a great book, which touches on subjects like self-acceptance, friendship, dealing with conflict, and kindness. When Mylo disobeys Hattie, his witch companion, and drinks a potion with irreversible effects, he is left with permanent batwings. Feeling embarrassed by his new wings, and wondering what his friends will think, he soon learns that his new look comes with superpowers. This is a great lesson on how uncomfortable change can sometimes lead to unexpected benefits. The book also has a great lesson about following your gut, especially if it tells you not to trust somebody. I love the exercises in the back, particularly the instructions on how to write your own story. The easy step-by-step recipe will help kids to come up with their own amazing Mylo plots. This was an enjoyable read and I can definitely recommend it to young readers who love magic, cats, and superheroes.
