Adair Finch is the most powerful warlock in the world, and one of the best private investigators for hire.

So Finch retired. From magic. From PI work. From everything.

Bree Blackstone, a twelve-year-old witch, doesn’t know or care about any of that except Finch’s reputation. In the middle of the night, she bangs on Finch’s door. Her mother has been murdered, and now the assassin is after Bree as well.

Reluctantly, Finch agrees to help, only to discover something sinister has been brewing in town while he ignored the world… He’ll need to dust off all his old skills and magic before it’s too late.

Reviews

Time-Marked Warlock by Shami Stovall is a riveting urban fantasy. Adair Finch is more than just a great private investigator. He is also the world’s most powerful warlock. Everything was going well for Adair until one case went wrong, and he lost his brother. Retiring from being a private investigator wasn’t enough for Adair, though. He also retired from magic and from life. The only thing 12-year-old Bree Blackstone cares about is the reputation Adair once had. She needs him to find her mother’s murderer because that same person is now after Bree. There’s no way the mortal police can assist, so Finch agrees to help, only to find that while he was hiding away, things had gotten worse. He’s going to need all his magic again and become the PI he once was to save Bree. Can he pull one last trick out of the hat? Will this case lead him down a path he doesn’t want to follow? Time-Marked Warlock by Shami Stovall is a remarkable story, with a touch of mystery and magic mixed with the paranormal. It’s a good old-fashioned PI story with a huge difference – our main protagonist is a powerful warlock. This is one of the best-written stories of its kind I have ever read, a story that grabs you on page one and has you reading avidly all the way through, not wanting to put it down in case you miss something. The style of writing makes you feel like you are in the story, joining the well-defined and well-developed characters as they hunt down a deadly assassin and battle evil. These likable characters are people you can relate to, and you’ll be on the edge of your seat, rooting for them all the way. If you like magical mysteries and PI stories, you’ve got the best of both worlds here in this thoroughly enjoyable adventure. Reviewed by Anne-Marie Reynolds for Readers' Favorite
