Outstanding🤩 I am becoming accustomed to the quiet buzz of excitement that starts when Ruby Scott announces the release of a new book. So, with the imminent release of The Reckoning, I felt I would be able to wait and read it on my holiday, two weeks after the release date. As the reviews began though and it became apparent how exceptional this story is, the buzzing became incessant and the will power required to not give in would, perhaps, even have tested Victoria😂 Finally, I was able to lose myself in its pages and what an an absolutely fantastic ride it turned out to be. My initial thoughts on how could Ruby possibly improve on the quality of The Turning were soon tossed aside! She really has done so, with bells, whistles and clamps on!! I started to get a little frustrated when the holiday threatened to get in the way of reading. I couldn’t stop! I needed to continue! Had to finish it! Ruby’s writing is just brilliant, drawing you in and holding onto you like crazy. This story is full of intrigue, action, love, threat levels, twists, turns and of course, wonderful spicy-ness and it is so addictive. The activities and exploits of Suzette, Victoria, Amber, Abby and all the ‘family’ had my heart beating wildly constantly (for one reason or another😉) and just as it calmed, down the following chapters would ramp it right back up again! With some questions answered, some left unanswered and the introduction of a new character I absolutely adore, The Reckoning is just superb 😍

It flung me across every point on Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotion—fear, joy, shock, grief, anticipation—before landing on a happiness so hard-won I’m still clutching it with both hands! A perfect follow-up to The Turning, The Reckoning doesn’t just meet expectations—it raises the bar and then sets it on fire! This is Ruby Scott at her absolute best, delivering more of everything that made me fall in love with this world: more tension, more intrigue, more jaw-dropping twists, more character development, and yes… more spice! (Chapter 16 alone nearly took me out—my hot flushes can personally vouch for that!) 🥵 In short, I fucking adore this book! I love this world, the layered, interwoven storylines, the emotional depth of the characters, and the wild, unforgettable journey it took me on. Ruby Scott, consider me emotionally wrecked and begging for more!
