What if you self-published a book, and it had unintended consequences? What if people who read it jumped to conclusions about your knowledge of real events?

Journalist Mike Stanhope has self-published a mystery novel as a diversion from his day job. One of the key characters is loosely based on a girl he remembers from childhood. Now he's persuaded by well-meaning friends to try and track her down. The trouble is that she is nowhere to be found.

As he pieces together the mystery surrounding the girl, fact and fiction start to intertwine. Mistaken assumptions lead him down a variety of false trails, but he gradually starts to unearth some surprises he couldn’t possibly have expected.
