In Book Two, Marine Letsco has begun to have flashbacks. Moreover, she thinks she saw the ghost of Ana-Geliza, her cabin steward that she thought she killed at the end of the cruise in "The Fire Within."
To complicate Marine's life, she must start a new job as a firefighter. What else could possibly happen? Who else will suddenly appear in her life? When will Marine get her memory back? Where is Drake? Will she stay in New Brook or leave for Europe? The answers to these questions and more take you on a journey through fire, murder, and revenge as Marine searches for a purpose in her life.
If you enjoy the stories of Sue Grafton or Patricia Cornwell, you will find The Marine Letsco Trilogy an intriguing read.
Reviews
The second installment of this series proves to be better than its inaugural predecessor. I loved the local mentions of places and references to our hometown, one I proudly share with the author. I'm especially honored that she chose to name a restaurant and it's owner Belle in honor of my four-year-old daughter Bella. However, I'm not too crazy about her character, a beautiful 20-something, getting involved with the espionage agents connected to Marine Letsco, our heroine. As a trained assassin killer aboard a cruise ship in the first novel, Marine loses her memory following a head injury and is taken in by Chet, the caring doctor, to his hometown of New Brook, Virginia, the fictitious name of our home town of Wytheville. Here, Marine becomes member of a local community fire department where she helps to save lives and pieces of her former life come back into focus as her memory begins to return. With that comes the conflicting personalities of who she was and who she is becoming; neither are without complication or plenty of twists and turns. I would definitely recommend this book as well as its predecessor and successor for anyone looking for an exciting read with a really enjoyable dose of local flavor. The author's vivid imagination proves to be a glorious gift to her readers and with each book, she becomes a better and better author.
It Keeps Getting Better: I was anxious to start book 2 of the Marine Letsco trilogy and believe me it was all I had hoped it would be. Newberry keeps the fast [pace] and surprise twist and turns coming! You just can't guess what is around the next corner. After the first two books, I am on the edge of my seat to see how Newberry brings it home in book 3!
This is the second novel to the first novel The Fire Within. Second novel has Marine starting a new job as an firefighter in a new town. Marine is having flashbacks of her previous life, only to have a person from her past land in the same town to finish Marine off. The author keeps you spell bound on what is going to happen next.
