The Crooked Line - The Ronnie & Bernard Adventures 1

Formats: E-Book, Audio, Paperback

England, 1972: Daytime soap stars Ronnie and Bernard are drawn into a bizarre mystery involving a country estate, a stone circle, and a chamber that defies the laws of time. Ronnie is a hard-drinking, self-deluded dinosaur with a gift for exaggeration. Whether claiming he once shared a stage with Laurence Olivier or believing he’s destined to be the next James Bond, his imagination knows no bounds. Bernard, a stand-up comedian with a troubled past, is struggling to move on from a failed marriage. Despite this, his career is on the rise, while Ronnie’s is very much on the wane, a situation Ronnie is keen to correct. When Bernard’s uncle dies, the duo attend the will reading, only to discover that Bernard must spend a night in a remote country house to claim his inheritance. Thus begins an epic adventure involving ghostly apparitions, travel to both the past and the future, and an ancient evil that threatens the entire world.

Reviews

I have enjoyed all of the Time Bubble books, so was very keen to try out this new series from Jason Ayres. I found it a fun, intentionally ridiculous and entertaining read with some time travel added in as part of the plot. I do remember the '70s and it sparked a memory of my father, who would have been in full agreement with Ronnie about the horror of wasting good (or even indifferent!) beer :-) Looking forward to Bernard and Ronnie's next adventure.

Reader Review

It was a lovely read, a bit like watching an old style TV movie in print form. Just wondering where can Bernard and Ronnie can go from here now.

Introducing possibly the most over the top obnoxious character in Ronnie, this was an enjoyable dash through time courtesy of a creepy mansion and its cellar, in the vein of a proper Scooby Doo adventure.
