Reviews
absolutely adored this story. This book is just so well written. DK knows how to wield words like a skilled swordsman. Maggie was my type of heroine. Strong. Feisty. Goal-driven. She’s a bit closed off in her feelings at times, but she’s been burned in the past, and it leaves her a little jaded. “Hard to write what you don’t believe in. You’re like an atheist trying to write a poem about God.” She truly doesn’t believe in love. Also, she’s not willing to risk losing the band that she’s worked so hard for. But she meets Tanner, her opposite in almost every way, but can’t help but fall for him. Her heart is torn between Tanner and her dream. And it’s so easy to see how she falls for Tanner. He’s just an amazing hero. Gorgeous, kind, and he’s got such an amazing wit and dry sense of humor. I loved Tanner SO much. Also I adored all the secondary characters in this one. Maggie’s brother had me rolling in he scene where he meets Maggie’s family. I was laughing so much at Tanner’s comments after the fact. The story is just real. The conflict, I understood deeply. Both Tanner and Maggie have their goals, and the relationship between them two doesn’t fit into either equation. I felt their pain. HOW can we make this work and still have it all? “I could love you if you’d let me” - GOD this line about summed it all up. It broke my heart when Tanner thought this. I was like YES YES, please let him love you. “He wouldn’t tell her he loved her, wouldn’t even think it, but dammit, he’d cherish her body.” GOD this scene got me in the feels. I was rooting for these two to make it the entire story. I loved, loved loved the second book in the Opposites Attract series. I loved that we got engaging, real, raw emotional characters that you could put yourself in their shoes. “Apart they were an incomplete melody. Together they were a unique, wondrous love song.” Fantastic book. Bravo DK Marie. I can’t wait for the next story in this series.
I need another star, because I loved Book 2 in the Opposites Attract series even more than Book 1 (and I LOVED Fairy Tale Lies!) DK Marie has quickly become one of my favorite romance writers. She writes classic romance, but with her own twist on traditional power dynamics. Love Songs does not disappoint! Maggie, the dedicated, driven MC, captured my heart immediately. She has a plan, and it is about her band and her career. Nothing will deter her from following her path and realizing her dreams. Not even the hot, irresistible Tanner. Maggie is not giving up all she's worked for, even if it means losing the man she loves. I love Maggie's spine of steel, and while my heart breaks for her when she has to make painful choices, I can't help cheering when she stays true to herself. I want to see more women like this in romance. More men like Tanner, too, please! I loved watching his perceptions evolve as he learned to love this woman who gave him all of herself in so many ways, but would not bend when it came to her dreams. Maggie and Tanner definitely bring the heat we've come to expect from DK. Oh my! The janitor closet scene? Bring a fan! 5+ stars for Love Songs. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, and strong, confident heroines.
