David Somerfleck is a speculative fiction author and poet residing in Hampton Roads, Virginia. David is the author of the dystopian science fiction novel "One Grain of Sand," which is Book One in his "Shards of a Shattered Sky" trilogy. Other books by David Somerfleck include "Join the Flock & Other Poems," "My Grandfather's God & Other Poems," and the instructional workbook "The Road to Digital Marketing Profits." Before becoming an author, David worked as a marketing copywriter, newspaper stringer, magazine freelance writer, marketing agency copywriter, then project manager. David eventually started his own digital marketing agency, a mediation nonprofit, and then a mentor for several small business/startup nonprofit organizations. In his (somewhat) spare time, David enjoys a good cup of tea, hiking, a nice deep dish, and spending time with his beautiful and brilliant wife.

Within these pages, ember-ghosts entwine, And long, black rivers shine like tarred-out wine. Sunflowers hold gold; winter still will bite, Icicle tears turn breath to brittle night. Here love is iron, barbed, a rusted key; It bites, then brightens, binding you to me. A hammer-fist on glass makes spidered pain new, And memory rains, then dries to ash-streaked stain. Rocking chairs, once meant to soothe, turn to dread now; They swing like storms above a child's cold head.
