Carol is originally from a small market town in the south of England. The youngest of the family, with much older siblings, from the age of four, Carol was an only child, but she didn’t mind; it gave her more time for reading. Several years ago, she and her husband left Blighty for rugged and rural France. They’d had enough of the rat race and jumped into a different, but much simpler existence. Life is much easier, apart from French bureaucracy; although they invented the word, so it’s to be expected. Stories have been trying to escape her head and land on the page for quite some time. As a retired special ed English literature and language teacher, Carol’s imagination has been polished over years of attempting to encourage students who would rather play Grand Theft Auto than study Macbeth to engage in their lessons. Hopefully now, something wicked this way comes! Carol grew up reading the classics. Many of which were written by women under a male pseudonym to avoid gender bias. When she found this out as a young girl, she was baffled. Having been brought up by two very forward-thinking parents, Carol had been taught to sew by her mother and how to shoot by her father; surely there was nothing a girl couldn’t do? But this was before she had experienced the world as a woman; eventually, she understood. History is written by the winners. Their biases highlight their triumphs while hiding the truth as seen from another perspective. Through her writing, she is keen to show the stories of women that have been overlooked, hidden and distorted. Nowadays, her time is spent writing, sporadically helping her hard-working husband renovate their old stone house, and looking after two enormous dogs. The amount of dribble wiped up daily is remarkable, from the dogs, not her husband! To date, Carol has published four books, a series called The Aella Chronicles, and she’s far from finished!
