An example of masterful storytelling, The Fire Inside by Brian A. Colella is a well-crafted and riveting novel. The intricate plot centers on the internal and external struggles of a man who cannot overcome his demons alone while facing a villain who, while not truly evil, is still dangerous. Themes of sacrifice, honor, hope, and community enhance the narrative, giving it a human touch that makes it relatable. Character development is outstanding and features a fascinating cast that undergoes genuine and realistic growth. The pacing is brisk, steadily building tension throughout the narrative with a perfectly measured tone. The Fire Inside not only provides an immersive look behind the faceplate of a firefighter's mask, but it is also a great read and a powerful reminder that no person is an island. A thrill-a-page ‘firefighting’ drama with a strong, fun to root for protagonist. The pacing is excellent and there's never a dull moment. Colella is talented with dialogue, and he understands the most important rule in high-octane novel writing – lots of dilemmas all of the time. Fun stuff! Highly Recommended.
