Courageous Heart

Formats: E-Book, Paperback

Ages: 18+

I had a rare uterine cancer, and nobody could tell me what came next. This is the story of how I learned to advocate for myself, listen to my body, and choose myself.

In this raw and honest memoir, I share my experience with ESS, endometrial stromal sarcoma, a rare uterine cancer. I recount the challenges of diagnosis and the physical and emotional struggles that accompany such a life-altering journey. The uncertainty of treatment loomed large as I faced painful recovery after surgery and profound moments of grief.

Yet through it all, I collaborated with western and eastern doctors, healers, and spiritual guides, reclaiming my own strength and agency through movement, wellness, and deep listening to my body. Crisis deepened the bonds that mattered most, through open conversations with my husband, family, and friends.

Vulnerability became my strength. Each challenge, from diagnosis to surgery to the setbacks of fear, pain, and guilt, became a stepping stone toward a more authentic and empowered version of myself. I emerged not just as a cancer survivor, but as a woman who learned to claim her voice and step into a new chapter of womanhood, transformed by menopause, resilience, and the radical act of choosing myself.

Courageous Heart illuminates the truth that healing happens not just in our bodies, but in our courage to share our stories and lift each other up.

Reviews

A Beautiful and Transformative Journey of Healing Courageous Heart is a beautiful, deeply moving book. What stayed with me most is that this is ultimately a story of transformation—not simply of moving through illness, but of allowing one of life’s most difficult experiences to open the door to something deeper. The book explores healing as so much more than what happens to the physical body. It is about learning to listen deeply to ourselves, trusting our own inner wisdom, and drawing on Western medicine, Eastern healing, spirituality, movement, relationships, and community along the way. There is so much here about vulnerability, self-advocacy, resilience, and the courage it takes to choose ourselves. I was especially moved by the idea that healing can invite us into a deeper and more authentic relationship with ourselves and with the people we love. This is a generous and uplifting book about turning an extraordinarily difficult experience into meaning, possibility, and transformation. A must-read for anyone on a healing journey, or anyone standing at one of those thresholds in life that asks us not simply to survive, but to become. -Marianne M
