Reviews
I have read all the greats. In fact, I’ve read literally thousands of books. This series' use of basic description and world building interspersed with dialogue and a mix of characters from mundane to unusual are easily within the top 10% of novels I’ve read. Combining that with subtle elements of class, racism and slavery raise these volumes easily to the top 5% category.
I have rarely binge bought and read an entire series, but this is one I definitely powered through in two days and have already recommended to friends and family. The characters were distinct, the interactions believable, and the world building was very well done. I appreciated that each of the characters were flawed, and much like real life, they struggle with their flaws. The over-reaching themes were relatable and resonated really well. Honestly I'd love more of these characters but I also loved the way it ended, too. For me, the most rewarding part was the LGBTQ+ representation, which was done in a believable manner, and honestly the conversations about those topics in the book were ones I and my friends have had. It was validating.
I don't usually read dragon books, but this one caught and held my attention. My husband has read a lot of dragon books, and he's enjoyed this series a lot also. So, basically, this is two reviews in one saying that the books are enjoyable and will hold your attention enough to read all four.
