“Stay together.” Michael knows they’ll be split up by the system, so he decides to take his young siblings to the white grandparents they’ve never known – because his father was black. While Michael deals with responsibility, grief, prejudice, fear, his first romantic relationship, and hormones, the police find his mother and label it murder. They think Michael did it, but the killer is stalking the kids. Family communication is the theme.
Reviews
This was really a good read. It kept me involved the entire time, mostly because I really cared about the characters. The story gets started right away, with important events happening from the very start and keeping the pace up through the whole plot...I was pulling for them the entire time, for the children who had lost both parents. The "mystery" was nicely seeded in the beginning and set up throughout the middle of the book. That helps propel the story forward and builds the intensity of the events until the end.
