Tony Simmonds is on a quest to gain a private pilot’s licence. Despite descending from a family of aviators and heroic war pilots, he has been utterly afraid of flying ever since he experienced a near fatal plane crash as a teenager. Now in his early thirties, he is finally determined to conquer his fears and make his father proud. Yet after secretly travelling to Jersey – the largest of the British Channel Islands – and plunging himself into an intensive training course, Tony discovers that his new flight school is not quite as advertised: run by a dodgy, cheapskate owner whose planes are possibly unsafe to fly.
