Mystery and Fire Island= Perfect Summer Read Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2013 Verified Purchase When I was a young adult I used to love the Nancy Drew books, which is why I was drawn to The Madonna Ghost. The novel revolves around a modern day young detective, Annie Tillery. She is a great role model for young girls. Not only is she smart, but she is down to earth and someone people can relate with. She is not only facing the mystery of the Madonna Ghost on Fire Island, but she is also facing family issues, with her mother's drinking problem and her father always being away on business. The mystery itself is engaging and the reader is uncovering the clues and helping to solve the mystery along with Annie and her crush, the cute college boy Ty. I really enjoyed how Ty and Annie's relationship grows throughout the novel, and though there is romance, the two bond on another level as well. Ty understands what Annie is dealing with and shows her there is a path toward forgiveness. Linda Frank is a very talented author who not only sucks you into this mystery, but her beautiful descriptive passages about Fire Island will make you feel like you are on the beach along with the characters. The ending is a page-turning, nail-biting experience, and I recommend this story for mystery lovers, both young and old. I can't wait to read the next Annie Tillery mystery!
The Madonna Ghost - A Joy to Read Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2013 The author packs a multiple punch with this delightful book. Clearly a book for young adults, a status I gave up a long time ago, it nevertheless has a powerful appeal for the adult reader. Annie Tillery, the young hero of the story, is a compelling character. Her summer vacation infatuation with the handsome young Ty doesn't prevent her from stepping into the way of danger to save the life of her beloved Aunt J., a New York City cop who has gotten herself into trouble on an undercover assignment. The characters in this book are alive. Uncle Doc, Annie, Ty, Aunt J. and the somewhat eccentric Alice, befriend the reader and lead you through a fascinating labyrinth of mystery thriller laced with paranormal ghost sightings. I won't say anything more about the ghost, the Madonna Ghost, other than to let you know that you're in for a wallop of a surprise. Linda Frank's background in forensic science is evident throughout the book. She leads you through a string of clues, dropping hints and teasing you to start the next chapter. I never knew that a fingerprint could survive an object being dunked in the water. The book ends with shock and satisfaction. A fantastic job by an author who knows what readers want - A good story.
