The Diamond Brooch - Celtic Brooch 7
Formats: E-Book, Audio, Paperback
A missing analyst caught in a historical photograph. A grieving author chasing the ghost of his lost love. A desperate race through 1909 New York before a magic artifact falls into the wrong hands.
ESPN analyst Amy Spalding has built her career on a phenomenal knowledge of baseball stats, but nothing prepares her for the ultimate curveball. When she triggers an ancient Celtic brooch, she is swept back to 1909 New York City. With no money and no way home, Amy is forced to pawn the priceless artifact just to survive, using her knowledge of historical sports data to bet on baseball games while desperately trying to earn enough to buy it back.
In the present, Amy has been missing for a year, and her boyfriend is about to stand trial for her murder. The clock is ticking when bestselling author Jack Mallory makes a stunning discovery: Amy is visible in the background of an iconic 1909 photograph of Ty Cobb sliding into third base.
Shattered by the tragic death of his soulmate, Carolina Rose, a grieving Jack has no interest in playing the hero. But his defiance evaporates when he discovers that the estate Amy inherited contains an old portrait of a woman named Catherine Lily—a woman who looks exactly like his lost Carolina Rose.
Intrigued by a cosmic second chance, Jack uses his own brooch to plunge into the past and rescue Amy. But 1909 New York is unforgiving. When they locate the pawnshop, they discover Amy’s brooch has already been sold to a wealthy traveler bound for London. Armed with Jack’s brooch, they aren’t trapped—but they are facing a catastrophic timeline threat. Jack and Amy must launch a high-stakes hunt across the Atlantic to recover the missing artifact before an unsuspecting stranger unlocks its magic and shatters history forever.
The Diamond Brooch is a time-travel romance set against the vivid world of early twentieth-century New York City—a story of redemption, survival, and the power of second chances. Each book can be enjoyed as a complete standalone.
Reviews
If you enjoy reading and listening to heart-racing action adventure novels with a little bit of time-travel romance thrown into the mix, the Celtic Brooch series is for you! Katherine Lowry Logan writes compelling stories with well-developed characters and a family dynamic that is truly outstanding. The 7th book in the series, The Diamond Brooch, picks up about a year after The Three Brooches ends, wherein Jack Mallory really screwed up and put the entire family in danger after he met – and lost – the supposed love of his life (he still hasn’t forgiven himself for it). Trying for a bit of redemption, Jack and few family members travel back to early 1900’s New York City to rescue ESPN baseball analyst Amy Spalding after Jack discovers Amy in the background of the iconic photograph of Ty Cobb. They need to return Amy to the present before her boyfriend goes on trial for her murder. However, Amy is no longer in possession of the brooch that brought her to the past because she pawned it so she could afford to live. When she attempts to retrieve it, she finds out that the brooch was stolen. The rest of the story is trying to locate the brooch, as well as Jack and Amy’s struggle to resist the power of the brooch (they keep denying that they are each other’s soul mate). All of the Celtic Brooch books are narrated by Teri Schnaubelt, who does an amazing job narrating these lengthy novels. She uses differing voices for male and female characters and uses varying accents. It is the longest book I listened to this year running at over 20 hours; yet, I never felt like the story was drawn out unnecessarily because the story moves at a face pace and it packs in the action. [If you have not read any of the books in the series before, please read The Ruby Brooch, The Sapphire Brooch, and The Three Brooches before attempting to read this one]. Simply put, I can't recommend this audiobook and the entire series enough. Brava!
The Diamond Brooch by Katherine Lowry Logan is the 7th book in a wonderful series, and each book introduces a different time and era. This story is about a woman who inherits a diamond brooch with a mysterious engraving, which propels her back to 1909 New York City after reading it out loud. How is she going to survive without money or even a safe place to live? While she is starting to adjust to life in the past, a group of time-travelers from her own time arrive to bring her home, but each of them has a load of problems they carry without admitting it. They are facing the demons of their own pasts, while trying to figure out how to bring Amy home without changing history. And what are the consequences of their actions? I won't go into details about the story line of this book, the description is a perfect summary of what the book is about, and I don't want to give away any surprises. The book made me laugh out loud, made me cry, and most importantly made me feel as if I was right there! The author has been doing a fantastic job researching life in the early 1900's, taking us from the streets of New York City to the luxury of ocean liners, from dusty baseball fields to the breathtaking beauty of the hills and towns in Tuscany. It is so far my favorite book in the series and I can't wait to find out where the future brooches may take us.
