Tarot For Two Book One - Alone - Tarot For Two Series

Formats: E-Book, Paperback

Ages: 18+

Jamie's an IT guy who's spent his whole life slightly out of step with everyone around him, no bloody clue why, and a nosy family who won't get off his back about his single status. It's been nearly two years, and they think he should be over it by now. But they're not him.
Lori's seen enough of life's pain and disappointments already, thanks very much, before she's reached her mid-thirties. She's had her own share of break-ups and breakdowns, work is pretty much all she has in her life, and she's sick of it.
Neither is prepared for what the cards show is coming for them.

Tarot For Two Book One - Alone is the start of a slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance series. It takes a heart-first dive into truth, trust, and two people trying – and sometimes failing – to understand life, themselves... and one another.

This is a love story. But... not yet.

It should be easy for a tarot card reader to find romance in her own cards, right?

Wrong!

Lori runs her business from her home on the Sussex coast, filling countless days with readings for her many clients, craft projects, and long beach walks. Alone.

When she reads romance in the tarot for IT professional Jamie, still bruised from his last break-up, the cards show there's someone "out there" for him. But they refuse to give more than a few hints – leaving Lori frustrated at someone else's reading for a change, and Jamie as much in the dark as before.

As their friendship grows, Jamie begins to realise what the cards were whispering about. But, before things can progress, an unexpected event shatters their lives and a close friend's obsessive involvement leaves behind painful discoveries, devastation – and deceit.

Secrets can be hard to keep, yet impossible to reveal. And when the full story comes out...

What are the costs, and who must pay?

Reviews

Tarot for two is a book about two friends and their unlucky tryst through life since they’ve gotten to know each other. Lori is a tarot card reader and Jamie is a tech IT coder kind of guy and somehow it works between them… until it doesn’t. I absolutely emphasized and related to what Lori went through and despised how Jamie reacted towards her. I cannot wait for book two in the series. At this point, I hope there’s a redemption for Jamie because I don’t want to hate him as a character, but he grated my nerves at the end. So please give us a redemption! Absolutely would recommend this book to others and cannot wait to read the second in the series. I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy and for that I am absolutely grateful to the author, much appreciated!!

Tarot for Two is a spiritual slow-burn story that sits somewhere between friendship, romance, and emotional drama. It follows a very complicated relationship dynamic that slowly builds from friends to that will-they-won’t-they tension, and the journey the characters go through is not an easy one. Both characters feel layered and complex, and the story explores some difficult themes. It takes a darker and more uncomfortable turn in places, and the trigger and content warnings are definitely there for a reason. There is spice in the story, but not in the comfortable romanticised way. It fits the narrative and the emotional weight of the characters’ experiences, and at times it almost edges into crime and drama territory because of how heavy some of the moments become. My heart genuinely broke for Lori. Jamie also goes through a lot, but some of Lori’s scenes were incredibly emotional and I did find myself tearing up at certain points. The book uses a dual POV which gives insight into both characters, though as someone who struggles a bit with switching voices in my head, it took me a moment to adjust whenever the perspective changed. It did not stop me enjoying the story, but occasionally I needed a second to settle into the shift. The chapters are quite long, which was a little intimidating for my ADHD brain at first, but once I got into the rhythm of the story it was worth it. One thing I really appreciated was the formatting being left aligned. As someone who is neurodivergent, I actually found that made the text much easier to follow. The main reason it was not quite a full 5 for me comes down to personal taste. Some of the lack of communication and parts of Jamie’s behaviour frustrated me, and there were moments where his actions felt cruel or unnecessary. That is not a criticism of the writing itself. It simply triggered a personal reaction because it reminded me of toxic relationship dynamics I have experienced before. The longer chapters and the dual POV also played a small part in my rating. That is purely personal preference though, and other readers may not mind it at all. Despite that discomfort, I was far too invested in the story to stop reading. I also loved the tarot elements. As someone who is pagan but not actively practising, and who collects tarot decks, I really enjoyed those aspects of the story. I would not be surprised if this book sparks a deeper interest in tarot for some readers because it introduces the concepts in a really engaging way. Overall, Tarot for Two is an emotional, complicated, and sometimes uncomfortable journey about connection, growth, and the messy realities of relationships.
