Reviews

Abductions, stalkers, and lies, Oh My! This story has what it takes to keep you interested until the very last word. It’s a flawless balance of mystery and romance, flanked by tense frustration and charming wit. I found myself rolling my eyes occasionally at the protagonist’s naivety, but it felt complicit with the author. It feels almost disloyal to say this, but it’s so much better than it has any right to be. The story is outlandish and the conventions lightweight but it is written so well it doesn’t matter. It’s an entertaining story elevated to another level by the talent of the author. It is the kind of book you will try and explain to other people and be unable to do justice. But I will still give it a try. Anna Blake is a clumsy, attractive, young author of romantic comedies and it is through her eyes that we see most of the story. Key scenes are picked up by Selina Matthews a homely, nervous, and desperate woman in search of her missing daughter, and then, Geoff and Mariella Blake a rich and influential couple also desperate but to protect the lives they’ve built. The chapters are headed with a character name to keep the reader orientated. Slowly Anna’s trusted friends and allies, old and new, are shown to be cogs in a maddening conspiracy. Every character is tangible and, to varying degrees, flawed. As the story plays out the reader is in little doubt as to what the bones of the outcome will be, but the details and intricacies are masterfully presented. Satisfaction reigns while leaving room for a sequel. Oh, my goodness, I hope there’s a sequel! You could easily finish this book quickly while relaxing by the pool on a foreign holiday (we can dream!) or curled up in a comfy chair with a pot of tea. I don’t like to assume anything about people but I think this book is going to win over more women than men. In terms of age range, I’d be reticent to be anymore specific than over 25. Don’t delay any further, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Who To Trust is Carolyn Ruffles’ second book and available to purchase on Amazon now. In Common Book Review

This book is just so incredible that I just do not know where to start to give it enough justice WITHOUT giving away the plot! So the storyline: The blurb covers the the story line perfectly! But I must say this plot is so clever! I’ve never read a romantic thriller and both genres separately are my favourites, however I wasn’t sure how they would work together BUT they really did! The author has fitted the 2 together perfectly, and it provides us as the reader with so many emotions, you get the thrill of the chase, and the mystery of trying to work it out, and you also get the will of wanting 2 characters to get together, the enjoyment of watching 2 people come together and then some huge bumps along the way! BUT you also get a lot of heart break in there, sadness, some extremely sad stories, and some shocking decisions! I mean how many books can make you feel so many emotions! I really enjoyed how many sensitive subjects this book includes, some I don’t want to mention due to giving the story away, but some of these subjects include, kidnapping, stalking, attacks etc! The author touched or some of the more heart wrenching subjects with great sensitivity! Now this book, even though I had a pretty good idea what the end result was, had me gripped throughout! Having an idea of one of the things that might happen didn’t lessen the storyline or my enjoyment at all! There were some major twists and huge shocks and I became just as paranoid for Anna as Anna was herself! Now on to the characters! First up Anna… Anna was raised as an only child with 2 very strong parents who had high expectations and I think, made Anna’s child hood and growing up so so tough! It was hard for Anna to fulfil what their expectations. They were very over protective and I just didn’t warm to them MOST of the time! Anna is a successful writer and I loved reading her put together her 2nd novel, it made me feel like I had an insight in to how authors come up with chapters and events, and i found it really interesting and her story sounds like one I’d love to read! Anna suffered with quite bad anxiety so I instantly found her relatable where I suffer from anxiety to and I could also relate to her paranoia, although I REALLY felt for Anna as her paranoia was so so extreme and I found her rubbing off on me throughout the book and I also found myself not being able to trust the other characters! Josh – A single gorgeous man who’s recently moved in to the area after a hard time and a horrible event! He’s trying to find out what he wants to do, what makes him happy and do up his house! I found myself so up and down with him mainly because I felt like I BECAME Anna! At one point I thought he was soo soo rude, then I found him so charming, and lovely and romantic, then I couldn’t trust him! It was a real rollercoaster, yo-yo ride with Josh! Selina – Poor POOR Selina! I can’t imagine what a Mother and Father must go through losing a child, a MISSING child, when you have no idea what has happened to them! Especially being a mother myself with a son who’s the same age as what her child was when she went missing! I felt for Selina the WHOLE way through, longing for her to get answers, longing for her to find peace! I do not blame Selena for some of the choices she made throughout the book, I feel the pain and the stress of losing a child that way would do the same to so many people! How do you rest a single day not knowing if your child is dead or alive and where they could be in either of those states! How do you ever move on? The authors writing is emotional, descriptive, touching, but also clever and well researched and made for a very realistic read! I thoroughly enjoyed every single page of this 274 page book! There was not 1 single page where I wasn’t feeling SOMETHING! A real heart and gut wrenching read, with some hard events to read, some shocking twists, some beautiful connections and sceneries, some funny situations and ALWAYS the thrill of wanting to know what happens! It really is an easy 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ review for me and I really would LOVE to read some more from this author! What a BRILLIANT piece of work! Stunning!
