Reviews

Todd Rowley returns with another assured entry in the Saga of the Splinter Tribe, deepening the series' unsettling mythology while raising both the stakes and the sense of impending catastrophe. The action is relentless, yet the story never sacrifices character for spectacle. Robert Orhe and his allies are driven into ever darker territory as the true nature of the Follen begins to emerge, blending science fiction, horror and conspiracy into something genuinely unsettling. Rowley has a gift for pairing cinematic set pieces with moments of creeping dread, punctuated by flashes of dark humour that never undermine the tension. What impressed me most was how naturally the world expands. Each revelation broadens the mythology without diminishing its mystery, leaving the sense that humanity is confronting forces far older, darker and more implacable than it can fully comprehend. The result is a novel that feels both intimate and epic, with an atmosphere that lingers long after the final page. Ambitious, intelligent and deeply unsettling, The Reign Dance confirms the Saga of the Splinter Tribe as one of the most original science fiction series I've read in years. I'm already looking forward to the next instalment.
