I've not been a reader of such books before; a gritty, often raw story of one man's courageous, sometimes reckless rebellion in the face of a the usurper king William's invasion, engulfment and conquering of Britain. The story is true to historical events-the battles, the characters we've learned about in history lessons at school. The fictional hero Hereward, and his ever loyal, fierce and fearless 'fen-wolves' unflinching, sometimes seemingly indestructible, fight on through almost insurmountable dangers, to protect their land and their people against the tide of the ruthless Norman invaders. I grew to love the warriors, the fen-wolves, I could imagine each one, as if I'd fought alongside them.
