Richard Lown is a British novelist whose work often explores moral responsibility, resilience, and human dignity within historically grounded settings. Although encouraged as a schoolboy to pursue writing, he came to fiction later in life, after a long professional career running an international training company serving clients in the technology sector. Born in the UK in 1952, Richard travelled extensively during his working life, living and working in the United States, the Nordic region, the Middle East, and across Europe. That exposure to different cultures, belief systems, and social structures strongly informs his fiction, which is marked by an interest in how individuals navigate prejudice, power, and ethical ambiguity. His lifelong fascination with Westerns began early, shaped by classic television series such as Bonanza, Rawhide, and The Lone Ranger, and later by revisionist Western cinema — particularly Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven. When he eventually turned to writing fiction, the Western genre offered a natural landscape in which to explore questions of justice, identity, and consequence. His debut novel, Beyond the Deep Blue Horizon, is a Western drama set in 1880s America and is the first book in the planned Josie Red Sky Trilogy. The novel follows a young mixed-race Cheyenne woman navigating violence, racism, and moral choice as she forges a future on her own terms. The book is scheduled for publication on Amazon Kindle in 2026. Richard’s writing is defined by psychologically credible characters and a refusal to offer easy answers. His protagonists are shaped by adversity but not defined by grievance; instead, they confront deception, prejudice, and moral compromise with intelligence, restraint, and personal accountability.
