Jake Barnes has finally outrun his past. The shadows of mainstream America — a manipulative pastor, a man named Vince, and years of quiet damage — are a continent away. In their place: the raw Alaskan wilderness, a homestead taking shape with his own hands, and a woman he loves enough to marry.
Jake has his freedom. For the first time in his life, he has exactly what he wanted.
Then she tells him she's pregnant.
What follows is not a simple story about becoming a father. It's a reckoning with the man Jake thought he'd become — and the one he might actually be. Because the wilderness doesn't care about your plans, and neither does a child. And the harder Jake holds onto the life he built, the more he risks destroying the people inside it.
Some men run toward their freedom. Some men have to learn what it costs.
Freedom is a dark psychological adventure set in the Alaskan wilderness — the first book in The Dream Messiah Series.
