Marianne Pickles writes geekfully thinksome mysteries set in the future. She grew up in the northeast of Scotland, where working on offshore platforms was a normal thing to do. These days, she lives in the low-lying wetlands known as the Fens with her partner, David. Given the rapid rate of sea level rise, they’re contemplating learning to kayak. Her novel Time Hack won the 2023 Green Stories Novel Prize and was shortlisted for the World of Books Sustainable Story Award in 2025. Marianne holds a first-class degree in English Literature and Classics from the University of Edinburgh and a Master’s with distinction in Language Testing from Lancaster University. To balance out her academic achievements, she remains unable to dance, cook, or make convincing small talk – and has profound respect for anyone who’s mastered these arcane arts.
