Born and brought up in Ayrshire, Scotland, Mamie always enjoyed creative writing. However, she followed the path of getting a ‘proper’ job and, after university, entered the Civil Service. Ten years later she trained as a history teacher. Quite a few years ago, she read an article that begged the question ‘what did you want to do when you were eight years old?’ and her instinctive response was ‘write stories’. She has written non-fiction books, several memoirs for clients, and contributed to anthologies. When it came to writing her first novel, maybe because crime and thrillers are her favourite genre, she was drawn to write her own murder mystery. ‘Mr Murdoch is Dead’ is set in her beautiful home county and introduces DI Kim Berry. 'Lilianne Is Dead' is the second book in the series. When she isn’t writing, Mamie can be found walking her dog, reading, attempting to declutter, and enjoying the company of family and friends.

Mamie Philp first travelled to Rwanda in April 2019 to find out about the work of SURF (Survivors Fund), its partner agencies and the Reaching Rwanda programme. This book describes her varied experiences during her ten days there including visiting memorial sites of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, teaching children and spending time with residents in the only residential care home for elderly people in Rwanda. In February 2020 Mamie returned to Rwanda. Mamie describes some of the events of the genocide which makes this book unsuitable for young children. She also shows us the progress this beautiful country has made in the years since the tragedy of those one hundred days.
