Born in Montana, I have spent most of my life here. Although I’ve been writing since my early teens and received lots of encouragement from teachers along the way, when I finally did get to college in my mid-twenties, I didn’t consider majoring in journalism. Rather, I received my B.A. in English Literature with a minor in psychology with every expectation of teaching high school English. A less than successful student teaching experience unraveled that plan, so despite obtaining my teaching certificate, I didn’t pursue the classroom. Instead, I changed directions entirely and became a jeweler and goldsmith, spending many happy years designing and creating one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry art. Having visited my love a creative writing every decade of my life, I finally got serious in 2012 when I started taking classes and participating in workshops. I studied with a writing coach, found critique partners, and joined the SCBWI for which I have served as both ARA and RA of the Montana region.
