When I retired, I started working toward my next goal: becoming a published writer. I joined a creative writing class in New Milton. I realised that this would take some time. I attended the Winchester Literary Festival, joined RNA during lockdown, and thoroughly enjoyed Janet Gove's online creative writing sessions. I joined a local RNA group in Southampton and 'We Write Stuff' to read out my work in progress. I progressed to the Dunford and Bournemouth literary festival. I joined the Alliance of Independent Authors. Finally, I self-published my first cosy mystery novel, 'Incident in Romania' in my Janie Williams series this year. I achieved this with the help of the wonderful Author Help team. I continue to grow by attending the Della Galton weekly online writing group. Marketing is my next project as I work on my next novel in the series, 'Incident in India '.

When Janie Williams returned to a Romanian orphanage after a difficult visit the year before , she hoped the trip would go well, and she would manage to regain the director's respect. But shortly after her arrival, two babies die in suspicious circumstances, and Janie finds herself looking for answers. Do the deaths have anything to do with her presence in Romania? When a suspect is taken into custody, everyone breathes a sigh of relief. But then another child is suffocated, and it becomes clear there is more to this than they first imagined, and when Janie uncovers a seedy black market operation and a staff member at the orphanage is badly beaten, she starts a race against time to decode the clues before it is too late. Can she find the murderer and stop the killings before she needs to return home?
