Amelia Frahm is an award-winning children’s author who writes about subjects that aren’t always easy to explain, including cancer and nuclear power. As a young mother navigating breast cancer, she founded Nutcracker Publishing Company and released "Tickles Tabitha’s Cancer-tankerous Mommy" at a time when few books in the children’s market addressed cancer’s impact on families. Following the Fukushima disaster, she published "Nuclear Power: How a Nuclear Power Plant Really Works!," a fictional picture book created to help young readers better understand nuclear energy — a subject she first wrote about during the Chernobyl era while developing school programs. Now retired in the East Tennessee mountains, she has discovered what many writers do: once you’ve written a book that raises eyebrows, retirement is often relative. Her nuclear title was recently translated to Polish.
